Bertha is Ground, not Dark.

I believe you're thinking of Karen from the Tohjo (Kanto/Johto) Elite 4 in GSC. She's the Dark trainer.

And while it's a good question, I highly doubt there'd be any relation.

It might just be a referrence to the original games. But I do see your point though, it's fully possible. The world may never know, however.
